NCAA Basketball Free Pick 2/6/12
Wofford vs Davidson

Wofford wrecked their chances of winning the Southern Conference with its SAT loss to Samford. This is still a big game against a good team. Wofford lost by 3 at home to Davidson in early December so they know they can hang. Wofford had won 6 straight before the loss this past Sat. They led by 7 with under 3 minutes left but couldn't close the game and lost in OT. Monday's road game will the 1st of 3 road games in 6 days for Wofford. They are sitting 2nd in their division and finishing 2nd is huge because you receive a 1st round bye in the Southern Conference tournament.
Due to the loss against Samford we believe we may be getting a point or two of value here. Davidson is the class of the Southern Conference this year but Wofford has represented the conference in the last two NCAA tournaments. There are some veteran players on the Wofford club and they didn't execute well in their last game. We expect a more focused effort in all phases of the game, especially defensively. Wofford is the slowest team in the Southern Conference while Davidson is the 2nd fastest. Wofford will try and make this a half court game and rely on their defense to keep them in it. Woffford has only given up more than 70 points one time in since December 28th. Wofford should be able to take care of the ball in this game due to the fact Davidson doesn't turn their opponent over. These are the best two rebounding teams in the conference so Wofford should be able to hold their own on the glass too. Wofford has to defend the three pretty well and keep Davidson off the line (#2 in FT%). Wofford has scored inside well all year and their 3PT% has improved in conference play.
We really like both of these teams but Davidson will get Wofford's best shot. This isn't a deep Wofford team at all so we hope they don't suffer from tired legs from Saturday's OT game. Win or lose the depth issue makes Wofford a possible fade with two more road games upcoming this week.
